A minibus for evacuation and logistics

We received a video request from the soldiers of the 52nd separate mechanized artillery brigade: they need a vehicle for their tasks, logistics and transporting people.

The soldiers’ words: “Greetings! We are soldiers of the 52nd separate mechanized artillery brigade. We defend the country on the eastern front. For our tasks, logistics operations and transporting personnel we need to buy a vehicle. We will be very grateful for your support and understanding. Slava Ukraini! Glory to the heroes!”

What we found

The bus is well past its youth – born in 1996, it turns 30 this year. A little rusty, but clearly loved and looked after: one family drove it for almost 15 years. It runs well, the roadworthiness test is still valid, and a set of winter tyres came with it as a gift. The price – 900 € including VAT. We noticed the gearbox does not shift quite smoothly, so before the trip the bus will get a thorough check at a workshop. We hope the project’s cost will not grow because of it.

For the first time, buying a vehicle did not mean finding a driver to bring it from the other end of Lithuania: the seller, the head of a transport company, was in Kaunas and on his way back to Kupiškis drove our volunteer Vladas himself. The bus is now in Jonava – not Ukraine yet, but already something.

How much is needed

The target is 1,200 €: the bus (900 €), fuel to Ukraine, insurance and the other costs of the trip. So as not to miss a good vehicle, we have already bought the bus, so every euro here covers the purchase and the journey.
